What Is A Pet Emergency

what is a pet emergency Many people are unsure about what constitutes an emergency for their pet, and when they should call a veterinarian. The following is a short list of injuries and illnesses considered to be a pet emergency. If your pet is experiencing any of the following, please make sure to call or see a veterinarian ASAP!
 
If you think your pet may be experiencing a medical emergency, call Dr. Alley right away at 714 847 2519. Depending on the injury or illness, the doctor may come to your home to treat your pet.

 

If your pet has an illness that cannot be treated at home, Dr. Alley may recommend an emergency care hospital where further diagnostic/ instruments are available. In the event the doctor recommends to bring your pet to Beach-Garfield Veterinary Hospital asap, it’s important to do so as quickly as possible.

If you see any of the following, please call your local Animal Emergency hospital ASAP first and then you can call pet vet house calls at   (714)847 2519 if you have any questions  

  • The Pet ( cat or dog) is involved in a car accident
  • The pet ( cat or dog) has uncontrolled bleeding
  • The pet ( cat or dog)has had gastric torsion or bloat in the past and is trying to vomit but unable to vomit, breeds like German shepherds, Great Danes, Saint Bernards and others are pron to it 
  • The pet ( cat or dog) is having trouble urinating or is not producing urine
  • The pet ( cat or dog) that is unwilling or unable to eat or drink
  • The pet is ( cat or dog) straining to defecate
  • The pet is ( cat or dog) having difficulty breathing
  • The pet ( cat or dog) has a bite wound or burn injury
  • The pet is ( cat or dog) in shock - Signs of shock which can include weakness, collapse, pale or blue gum color, cold feet, and an abnormal heart rate (Fibrilation)
  • The pet ( cat or dog) has an abnormal heart rate or rhythm
  • The pet ( cat or dog) is having trouble walking or has loss of balance
  • The pet ( cat or dog) has seizure or epilepsy
  • The pet ( cat or dog) is in a coma
  • The animal ( cat or dog) is bleeding internal bleeding or external bleeding
  • The animal ( cat or dog) has swollen abdomen or sudden abdominal enlargment
  • The animal ( cat or dog) has sever diarrhea or the animal has sever bloody diarrhea
  • The animal ( cat or dog) is vomiting several times
  • The animal ( cat or dog) has toxicity of any form
  • The animal ( cat or dog) got into trash and is acting abnormal
  • The animal ( cat or dog) has heat stroke or overheating
  • The animal ( cat or dog) is giving birth and is straining for 30 minutes or more
  • If your pet need more treatment than what can be done at home, Dr Sean Alley will recommend to bring your pet to Beach-Garfield Veterinary Hospital.
